Jimmy Page Presents Guitar To Riffathon Winner
From: BLABBERMOUTH.NET 2005.07.29
According to Led-Zeppelin.com, the Hammersmith Palais rocked on Sunday night (July 24) with ten absolutely awesome performances of an extraordinary level of guitar playing for the Riffathon charity guitar competition final. Jimmy Page (LED ZEPPELIN) and Brian May (QUEEN) were judging the show, along with Dan Hawkins from THE DARKNESS. They were all blown away by the high standard, and the decision to find a winner was proven extremely difficult. Martin Tomkins from Kettering stole the show and first prize with his awe-inspiring performance of LED ZEPPELIN's "Rock & Roll". He couldn't get the grin off his face all night - especially after being presented a 1957 Gibson Les Paul Gold Top, which he called a "dream guitar," by Jimmy Page, who introduced the winner as "this guy without doubt played it ('Rock n' Roll') better than I have done."

Page At Cream Gig
From: WHERESERIC.COM 2005.05.19
Review by Stephen Taylor
...Jack then began the intro to Badge and the song sounded raw and beautiful - Cream never performed it live - as it was meant to sound ...incredible. The show was climbing to dizzy heights with Politician, Sweet Wine, Rollin & Tumblin , Stormy Monday, Deserted Cities of the Heart and Born under a Bad Sign. Each song better than the last and the audience now realising they were witnessing something very special....in the box behind me was sitting another guitar legend Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin ....he was smiling at the stage and was obviously enjoying himself.

Robert Plant Lost Interest In Music After Son's Death
From: LAUNCH.YAHOO.COM 2005.05.16
Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant turned his back on music following the tragic death of his son in 1977. The rocker was distraught when six-year-old Karac died of a respiratory infection, and subsequently lost the desire to tour or record with the seminal band. And although he eventually rediscovered his passion for making music, Plant admits he suffers dips in motivation whenever expectations are high for him to produce great tunes. He says, "When I lost my son I switched off from the whole deal. Also, the pressure to be great weighing down upon you can stifle the soul." And Plant has also come to realise over time that it's easier to wow a small audience than inspire tens of thousands of concert-goers. He adds, "Greatness isn't measured in large stadiums - you can be great in the tiniest room on the planet in front of three people. It's harder to invoke greatness at a large event." (wenn)

Plant Admits Live Aid Performance Was Cr*p
From: CONTACTMUSIC.COM 2005.05.11
Former LED ZEPPELIN frontman ROBERT PLANT has branded the band's infamous performance at LIVE AID cr*p.
The group's former members - Plant, JIMMY PAGE and JOHN PAUL JONES - refused to allow footage of their performance at the 1985 concert in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, be used in the DVD release last year (04), because their set was "sub-standard".
In reflection, Plant admits, "There was a consensus of opinion that our performance was really s**t. We didn't perform very well, it wasn't recorded well and everything about it was cr*p."

Plant Plans Zep Meeting
From: CONTACTMUSIC.COM 2005.05.11
ROBERT PLANT is considering staging a summit meeting with former LED ZEPPELIN bandmates JOHN PAUL JONES and JIMMY PAGE after upsetting them by not attending the GRAMMYS (13FEB05).
Plant was promoting his new solo album, MIGHTY ARRANGER, in Milan, Italy, and couldn't attend the prizegiving, where Led Zeppelin were presented with a Lifetime Achievement honour.
His decision to stay away upset Page and Jones, who did attend.
Plant admits he partly regrets his decision now, accepting it was a great opportunity to get back up onstage with his former bandmates.
He says, "I would have put my robes on and my crown, my sceptre... What a way to spend the weekend.
"It'd be nice to get together to see if we have anything to argue about."

LED ZEPAGAIN ANNOUNCES
DEBUT CD RELEASE
TRIBUTE BAND PRAISED BY JIMMY PAGE OFFERS FANS
A NEW WAY TO EXPERIENCE ZEPPELIN
Los Angeles, CA, March 25, 2005 - LED ZEPAGAIN, the Led Zeppelin tribute band hailed by Jimmy Page for capturing the spirit and sound of his legendary band with uncanny accuracy, has released Led Zepagain: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin. The disc, featuring 12 signature Zep classics, is available online at Cdbaby.com with more information and sound clips at zepagain.com. Led Zepagain is Swan Montgomery (vocals); Steve Zukowsky (guitars, mandolin, theremin); Jim Wootten (bass, keyboards, mandolin, acoustic guitar, backing vocals); Jim Kersey (drums, percussion). The CD was co-produced and engineered by Michael Vail Blum (Roger Daltrey, Madonna).
A fixture in Los Angeles clubs such as House of Blues, the Whisky and the Coach House since the early 90's, Led Zepagain performs regularly throughout California, Arizona and Vegas. They have traveled east as far as Michigan, with plans in the works for gigs in Hawaii, Mexico, Panama and Chicago (where the song "Rock & Roll" from the CD was recently featured on WCKG's "The Zeppelin Hour with Jimmy Mac"). On the international scene, the band has brought Zeppelin music to U.S. and NATO troops in Germany, Bosnia and Kosovo.
After so many years of capturing Led Zeppelin's music live, recording seemed a natural next step. Guitarist Steve Zukowsky explains, "Making a CD was a way to explore what Zeppelin did in the studio, not just on stage, and to tackle the music from another standpoint. We gained a new appreciation for what they put into it and how well the songs and arrangements and recordings themselves were constructed. Playing live you don't pay attention to all the overdubs and nuances, which are crucial in recording."
The songs chosen for Led Zepagain strike a balance between the best-known Zep classics, like "Stairway to Heaven" and "Whole Lotta Love," and Zepagain's personal favorites such as "Ten Years Gone" and "The Battle of Evermore." The band's live repertoire spans the entire Zeppelin catalog, consisting of over 60 of its 88 songs.
Why bother to record though, when Zep fans can buy the original CDs and hear the band on the radio? Steve Zukowsky offers Zepagain's perspective. "People who come to the shows regularly like to hear our versions of the songs, they buy our CDs to hear in the car on the way home. There are generations of kids who are Zep nuts, but who are too young to have seen them. They love that there's a band out there doing this."
Jimmy Page is also a fan, as Zepagain found out one memorable night at the Los Angeles House of Blues. Page made a special point of meeting them following a sold out show and was knocked out by their attention to detail. His review - "I loved the show," "I can tell how much you guys really love the music," and "It's amazing how much like us you sounded."
Led Zepagain has gone on to perform several shows for Page's wife's charity, the ABC Trust/Action for Brazil's Children. She once called a local radio station to promote a show, saying on the air that Jimmy had seen the band and thought they were "astonishing."

New Robert Plant Songs
From: GOLDEN GOD 2005.02.16
Robert Plant's new songs "Enchanter" (starting at 4 minutes and 58 seconds) and "Somebody Knocking" (starting at 23 minutes and 19 seconds). Have to say songs sound very different from any of Plant's other solo material. There's more of a Page/Plant "No Quarter" sound going on. I think, I know Plant tried to stay away from the "ZEP" or "PAGE" sound on all of his solo albums and is now looking in that direction. Too bad "PAGE" is not there to really add fuel to the fire. Page is the "Only One" who can really bring out that "Plant sound" we all know and love. Maybe, one day, Page/Plant part 3, even better, maybe, oneday, Page/Plant/Jones part 2. Maybe? Who knows? Only "Robert" holds the key.
Listen to the two tracks here.

JPJ To Play For Foo Fighters Album
From: ULTIMATE-GUITAR.COM 2005.02.16
According to an excerpt of Grammy Awards article in Canada's Edmonton Sun, Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones will appear on the upcoming Foo Fighters album, due in stores on June 8th.
The excerpt from the article, according to BW&BK, reads:
Dave Grohl is psyched that Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones is playing on the new Foo Fighters album that's due for release June 8. "We have a few guests that are playing on the record," Grohl said. "I put (Jones) on our wish list of guests and he actually responded and said that he would do it.
"And so I talked to him on the phone. Great guy. Nicest guy in the world. And then I got an e-mail the next day saying, 'Hey, if you'd like you can sit with us at our table for the lifetime achievement awards.' It was unbelievable. It was pretty surreal."
"Robert Plant didn't show but it was amazing," said Grohl, who is also guesting himself on new albums by Nine Inch Nails and Garbage.

New John Bonham Tracks?
From: ROADRUNNERRECORDS.COM 2005.02.10
ContactMusic.com is reporting that mysterious lost drumming tracks believed to be recordings made by tragic LED ZEPPELIN drummer John Bonham have appeared on the internet.
Web site www.disndat.info/bonham features 23 tracks reportedly recorded by Bonham and is offering them to fans as streaming audio and MP3s.
The anonymous sound engineer, who put the recordings on the site, admits he has been overwhelmed by the response, but refuses to confirm or deny the tracks are genuine.
He writes, "I really only stuck these tracks up here to share with a specific group of people... but it seems that in the process, the link to this page has been spread to the masses.
"I understand the mass appeal. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!
"I got these from a friend that's part of the group of people that I mentioned above. I recently talked with him and asked where he got them... and his came from a friend, too... and he gave me exactly what was given to him, so what I've got is what he's got, is what his friend had... and so on.
"Neither of us know where they came from... we just know what and who they appear to be... so take that for whatever it's worth."
