June 2000 Question:
Why do you think Led Zeppelin has remained so popular with its fans 20 years after the ceased to exist?
Comments=song writing, musicianship and originality Comments=Led Zeppelin has writen and played the best songs in history, no one can beat them Comments=For the same reason the Beatles have; the music is enduring because it represents a time period which it defined, yet it is timeless because it was great then, and it is still great now. Comments=Jimmy Page came up with really cool things that no one else would think of. The same thing with "Bonzo." He was an exelent drumer. Jones is a great musician over all. Plant had vocals that you can't deside if it is good or bad, so you keep listening, and you get hooked. They are one of the best bands of the 20th century. Comments=great and memorable songs, originality, diversity, expert arranging. led by 2 of the most memorable front men. all were experts at all the instruments they played. how many other bands have people said that each member was "the best of all time" .influential, ground-breaking, and forever great. the one, the only LED ZEPPELIN Comments=The reason they have stayed so popular is their creativity and the fact that their music was so ahead of their time. It is timeless music. Every part of the band made it great. Jimmy's incredible guitar playing. Bonzo's amazing drumming skills. Jone's bass and of course one of the greatest vocalists ever next to John Lennon Robert Plant. Comments=They Made music that appealed to everyone. Bands like Iron Butterfly, who too were big in the sixties and seventies with their album 'IN-A-GADDA-DA-VIDA' (or somat like that!), just mademusic that was liked by people of that era. Led Zeppelin made music that was rock, and is still listened too nowadays. In England the opening riff on the song 'Whole Lotta Love' is now used on a top music programme called 'Top Of The Pops' 31 years after the damn song was originally written! Thats damn good. In closing I'd like to say that Led Zeppelin Kick ass and thats all there is to it!!! Comments=They wrote classic songs that everyone can listen to....does´nt matter if you are young or old...it´s still good music Comments=I think that this band it was the biggest rock band in the story of rock. Other band after Leds are only shit!!!! Comments=Their music is timeless. No matter 20 ago or 20 years from now, Led Zepplin will still have a sound that everyone wants to hear. Comments=it rocks Comments=Because there music was so powerful and influencal that they made a huge mark in music history and will continue to do so for many years to come! Comments=Because their music was made to last. They covered all genres and still kept the same fan base after all of these years, and even picked up some more fans on the way. Robert's voice was the apex for many garage bands, Jimmy's guitar adventures are always aspired by, Jonesy's orchestration, dourness and placid personality is felt by all who never saw him and Bonzo's thrashing, attitude and humor is always retained in every drummer i have seen. In essence, Led Zeppelin has remained popular with its fans 20 years after because Led Zeppelin is still around. Comments=Beacuse their music rocks!!! Comments=because, led zeppelin is the best!!!!! Comments=Led Zep have stayed famous because Jimmy and the rest of the band made a point of trying something new for every album. Comments='cause zep-music is the only thing you can call real rock music!!! Comments=because zeppelin kicks ass. Comments=their music is shear quality Comments=Pure talent they never sold out. aerosmith style intensity the ultimate. Comments=Because there hasn't been a band who came close to their standard since the death of John Bonham in 1980. Comments=because they are the essence of rock, and the inspiration to many bands. So when you hear so many of TODAY'S musicians saying that Led Zeppelin was part of their influences, you wanna check out the band, and when you do, you love them..... Comments=Because of the good music. Comments=because its the best music ever recorded. the soundscape zeppelin creates is truly magical Comments=Because their music is timeless and nobody will ever be as good of a guitar player as Page or as good of a lead singer as Plant. Bonham and JPJ were also incredible. Comments=Because they are the first band who play a rock and not to roll. Comments=they had a distinct sound and they had the true energy of a rock and roll band. They had a vocalist who gave it all he had on the mic, a guitarist who just wailed on the guitar, a bassist/keyboardist and drummer who just gave Zeppelin the backing sound they needed. They are the ideal rock and roll band Comments=They were the greatest rock band ever! The original generation of Zep fans brought Led Zep to their kids Comments=Led zeppelin rocks Comments=They are sincere. They are REAL LEGEND. WITH LOVE FROM RUSSIA. Comments=Led Zeppelin is so popular because the music is so readily identifiable. There are very few bands that wrote (or write) music that people could recognize without actually hearing the words. Today you can hum the first few bars of "Black Dog," "Whole Lotta Love," "Heartbreaker," or numerous other songs and someone will immediately recognize the music. Not only were each of these songs great in their own right, but they had the characteristic that they were readily recognizable by a variety of people. Jimmy Page then took these simple riffs and blew them into complex arrangements that truly set the Zeppelin music apart from contemporaries such as Black Sabbath (no knock on Ozzie, it's just that Zeppelin was better because the musicians actually played different parts to a song) and groups today such as Soundgarden and Pearl Jam that base their music on the same style. In addition, the blues-driven lyrics were important to the context of the song. Music today is awful because for the most part you get a bunch of guys with no talent banging out the same bar chords to words written by guys with so litte imagination that the best the can come up with is that they "did it all for the nookie" (I like that song, it's just the words suck). On the other hand, while Zeppelin's music touched on the same type of subjects, at least they did it with the subtlety that the bluesmasters from the 30s and 50s did. For instance, "The Lemon Song"'s content is extremely sexually oriented, but it is not blatant. (I know, I know, it's a Robert Johnson knock-off, but you get the point; "Whole Lotta Love" was sexually-oriented as well without ever having to use profanity.) Jimmy Page was not the best guitarist ever (Clapton and Stevie Ray blow him out of the water), but he was undoubtedly the best at writing music from many different genres that were not only good but were identifiable. Comments=The themes in their songs are personal, yet universal. Comments=Because...they are awesome. Page is the BEST guitarist...and I think Plants voice comes from Heaven! Listen to their songs...you can't tell me when you first started listening to them, you KNEW you were gonna listen to them for the next 20+ years! Comments=Because they are the most talented musicians with the greatest roots and influences.... Comments=Because there music is very good and easy to listen to and enjoy Comments=because it is real yet not over bearing. more of an illusion of want you want to make of it, or what you can do with it as well. Is that silly, or what? Its all fith-fath. Comments=they kick ass. Comments=their music is not a fad. Each song has it's own personality and soul. I could never just listen to Led Zepplin as background music. Led Zepplin deserves ones full attention. Comments=For me, LZ music is timeless, that's something no other band has ever achieved. They were four extremely talented musicians who joined together at the right time. In my opinion LZ is THE BAND. I will always love their music. Comments=Because they're the greatest musicians that ever existed. Comments=the music kicks a-- man!! Comments=good songs, great playing and recording, and their personalities Comments=Zeppelin = Music Comments=BECAUSE EVERYONE IN THE BAND IS SO EXCEPTIONALLY TALENTED Comments=I think the reason Led Zeppelin has remained so popular is because they made great albums.None of their albums sound alike.Very few bands have been able to change and blend different styles of music the way that Led Zeppelin did. They were the perfect blend of power and sensitivity. Their music could make you wanna jump and dance and their music could also touch your soul. When music does that,it stays in your heart and never gets old. Comments=Because there is no band that has even come close to the talent in Led+Zeppelin. Their is and has never been a better lead singer, lead Gutarist in the same band. Jimmy ansd Robert are the best duo of all time. Comments=They have lasted so long because thier albums were driven by some energy that can't be defined. it will never die or fade away... i believe in 200 years they will be the "mozart" of the 20th century. Comments=John's percussive powerhouse, Jimmy's guitaring, Percy's harp-blowing and screeching vocals, and Jonesy's everything. Comments=THEY ROCK No further Explination!! Comments=because their music is classic and timeless. i am 14, and they are my favorite band Comments=Because they invented heavy metal and hard rock. Comments=Their combined talents and energies created a sound that reaches deep inside us all. Comments=The song remains the same! Comments=I am only 16 and have yet to go to a Page and Plant concert but I am absolutely amazed about Led Zeppelin. Have been for my whole life. Grew up with it. I feel that when they performed their music..they had a feel for it. Not like lame bands now days. Plants improv against Pages awesome guitar work made for out of this world solos and songs. Their songs not only mean something to them but they also tell a story that people can not get enought of. Like a good movie, people can watch it over and over and never get tired of it. That is what makes Led Zeppelin's music so damn awesome!! Rock on Comments=I think led zeppelin, like the beatles, remain so popular because they have been so innovative and influential in their music. You could hear their influence in Nirvana and Ac/Dc all the way to Prince and Lenny Kravitz. Comments=the music transends time Comments=clean, decisive effort and rewarding attention to it's listeners Comments=BECAUSE THEY ROCK AND HAVE DIFFERENT TYPES IN THEIR MUSIC! Comments=Because they invented a style of music that is still popular HEAVY METAL and because Jimmy page is and amazing guitarist robert plants voice is fantastic BONZO was the best drummer and JpJ was a very talented musicain Comments=Diversity Comments=jimmy page is the greatest guitar player who ever lived Comments=because their music was so far beyond their time, it still remains good to the listener. I call this the "Song Remains the Same" theory. Comments=The music is timeless. The lyrics are not trendy, the sounds are pure and creative, Led Zeppelin has never gotten and never will get 'old' with its listeners. Comments=Simply because they kick ass. Comments=Because their music was timeless. Stuck in a wormhole of ever lasting popularity. It appeals still to your average teenage hard rock fan with it's time less rythyms and guitar riffs. Comments=LZ remains a vital influence for today's musicians. Comments=LZ remains a vital influence for today's musicians. Comments=Well, led zeppelin is great music. Great music never goes out of style! Comments=I have no idea but I'm only sixteen and so are my mates and we all love Led Zeppelin, and I'd just like to say we also all hate that new pop shit, and The Doors rock too! Comments=Because they have so many bad ass songs and they are the shit! i'm 16 years old and i really never heard of led zeppelin until i heard kashmir on the radio a couple of years ago, and i have heard alot more of there stuff since then. they are without a doubt the best. the reason i believe they have remained so popular is because they strecth across the musical spectrum so well, and with that they can always reach new fans in all areas of music. plus i can never hear to much led zeppelin, it never gets old, because ever time i listen i hear something in the music that keeps me listening. thanks for reading my opinion. Comments=Because people like simple music,Led Zepp have hard hittinh drums, rageing guitars, and an amazing lead vocal that everyone can enjoy Comments=one reason, THEY ARE THE BEST! Comments=I believe because not only do they have such great music and lyrics, but also because they did so many styles like metal, reggae, folk, country (buarn-yar stomp), classical (stairway), and just great rock. So many people enjoy their stuff. Comments=I think that though the band has stopped making the music there is so much to listen to it feels as if they are still releasing singles today. you can always find a song you don't know all the words to or can't play so theres always some where interesing not to mention all the diffrent veriety from the funky disco sounding song The Crunge to the all time great stairway. They give music to everyone through there musical skill and taste and i think thats why they still are popular after 20 years Comments=jimmy page is the greatest guitar player who ever lived Comments=A combination of so much talent into one band made them an immediate legend. Jimmy Page is an excellent guitarist. Robert Plant has a unique voice. John Paul Jones is talented with many different instruments. And John Bonham was an excellent drummer and especially known because he hit the drums extremely hard. A combination of that much talent is bound to create a legend. Comments=their music was so true to its self and pulled from so many ethnicities that everone who allows themselves the oppertunity will find something that they can identify with and say "damn thats right man" its like a an emotinal experiance. there not joni mitchell, there not willy dixion and there certianly not spinal tap but there a n odd yet perfect mixture of all them and more. Comments=I think the reason they have remained so popular is because many kids grew up listening to the music and still do. Plus if you appreciate true guitar playing then you'll love the way Jimmy Page does it. One more thing that isn't so good is everyone knows Stairway to Heaven now,so its like if you know that song you automatically know Led-Zeppelin,but you don't. I grew up one it I still live it and listen to it everyday. Comments=There is no question as to why!! They are purely THE BEST!!! Next question!!!!! Comments=Their music speaks! Comments=They just keep rockin!!!!!!! Comments=4 of the most talented musicians ever created some of the best music ever. Of course it will stand the test of time. Comments=Led Zeppelin simply has great music, and for people like me, age of the music is of no concern, since, in my opinion, music of the 1990s isn't that good. Comments=they just kick ass Comments=I'am 46 years old and I saw them live 4 times, they and The Who were the best live groups and still are. You had to be there to understand the sound they put out. The Best Comments=Because Stairway rules, and Achilles last stand has the greatest drums of any song ever, as well as totally immense guitar pieces. Nobody comes close to either of these songs. NOBODY!! These two alone make Zeppelin the greatest band ever!! Comments=Because their music is still played very often on the radio, and once kids here it they like it. Comments=I think that they hve very catchy lyrics that both old and young people enjoy! Im 17 and love Led Zeppelin! Comments=I think this is because they created so many epic moments, they reached perfection several times. I can give a list: Good Times Bad Times, Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta Love, What is and should never be, Heartbreaker, Ramble On, Immigrant Song, Since I've Been Loving You, Gallows Pole, Tangerine, Bron Y Aur Stomp, Black Dog, Rock and Roll, Battle of Evermore, Stairway To Heaven, Going to California, When The Levee Breaks, The Song Remains The Same, Rain Song, Over The Hills and Far Away, No Quarter, The Rover, In My Time of Dying, Kasmir, In The Light, Bron Y Aur, Ten Years Gone, Sick Again, Achilles Last Stand, Hots On For Nowhere, In The Evening, Fool In The Rain, All of My Love. They created so many memorable tracks and riffs, Achilles Last Stand sounds like Jimmy Page releasing his emotions through his wailing guitars. That's why they are immortal band. Comments=When you put together the greatest guitarist ever with the greatest drummer ever with the most talented lead singer ever and the multi-talented Jonesy, why wouldn't this band be popular forever? Ed Comments=Because they have incredible talent, creativity, and a blend of styles that is unparalelled in popular music. Not to mention the fact that they have an overwhelming catalogue of music that doesn't contain a weak track. Comments=i think led zeppelin is the best band of the history and jimmy is god Comments=BECAUSE THEY'RE MUSIC IS GOOD, HAS A GOOD BEAT.. I LOVE IT AND IT IS KINDA B4 MY TIME.. I AM 20 YRS OLD AND THEY ARE ONE OF MY FAVORITE BANDS..AND ALWAYS WILL BE Comments=Led Zepplin remained and remains so popular because they are the cream of the crop. Their music was top of the line, in terms of inovation and variety. Their style is still emulated today because Led Zepplin was way ahead of it's time. Comments=simply beacause they're the best rock'n'roll band of the world. After the Stones, of course. Comments=because they are best rocker that ever lived Comments=1) Because their fans have not ceased to exist. 2) Because their style was fresh and energetic. 3) They produced each new album with listener friendly songs and music. 4) They kept their fans overjoyed with several new songs that had catchy music and lyrics over the years. Comments=THE ONLY BAND OF THAT ERA WHO COULD WRITE THEIR OWN SONGS AND PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS. BEST SONGWRITING BY ANYONE.BAR NONE!! Comments=Because they created they own genere, and because they were very good
