Robert Plant Documents Solo Career With Nine Lives Set 'InTheStudio'

Quite coincidentally, no less than three of Robert Plant's solo albums are marking significant anniversaries, so no better time than now to examine all three as North American syndicated Rock radio show and website InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands invites Plant to look at his extensive post-Zeppelin solo career.

Robert's second solo album, 1983's The Principle of Moments, provided proof of a viable and sustainable solo career with angular extended songs In the Mood and the cryptic Big Log, both of which became rock radio staples in the States, followed by Little by Little from Shaken and Stirred in 1985.

Not until 1988's Now and Zen, however, did Plant shed the self-conscious shadow of Led Zeppelin by exorcising his ghosts with the song Tall Cool One, brilliantly sampling the "thunder of the god" iconic licks and employing Zeppelin mastermind Jimmy Page on guitar. Robert shares with InTheStudio host Redbeard the mindset behind Tall Cool One.

"Necessity really is the mother of invention. I really wanted to do something real bright, breezy and cheerful, and Tall Cool One was really Real Wild Child by Iggy Pop mixed with a bit of Billy Idol mixed with 'Rock And Roll' by Led Zeppelin... with a sense of humor."
